Service Development | Neami Research Committee

Neami’s Research Committee, comprised of Neami staff, consumers and external academics oversee and support the organisations research activities.  The Committee provides a vital function in ensuring quality and consistency is reflected in research through the coordination, monitoring and provision of overall management of Neami research activities.  The Committee ensures safe, ethical and beneficial projects are undertaken in a manner which is respectful and considerate of participants, including consumers.

If you are interested in conducting a research project within Neami the Research Approval Checklist (link below) must be submitted for the Research Committee to review.  The Committee meets on a quarterly basis.

Research previously undertaken includes:

  • Camberwell Assessment of Need and Behaviour and Symptom Identification Scale as routine outcome measures in a psychiatric disability support service (2004).
  • Lessons Learned from using routine outcome measurement in a PDRSS.
  • Development and evaluation of a patient-rated version of the Camberwell Assessment of Need Short Appraisal Schedule.
  • From Psychiatric Hospital to Supported Housing: The Neami Community Housing Program (1995-2008) Case Studies in Deinstitutionalisation: Implementing Supported Housing Program in Two Australian States.
  • Cigarette smoking and interest in quitting among consumers at a Psychiatric Disability Rehabilitation and Support Service in Victoria (2008).
  • AIMHI Study (Neami was a participating organisation in the evaluation of CRTP (Adelaide and NSW Sites).
  • The impact of substance use in adults receiving psychosocial rehabilitation services at Neami.
  • ARC Linkage Grant of which Neami was one of four participating agencies. Study was looking into different training procedures and how this might influence the use of CRM protocols with consumers. Eight Neami sites were involved in the study.

Research currently being undertaken includes:

  • Flourish Evaluation – Evaluation of peer facilitated group self development program.
  • Evaluation of the effectiveness of the PARC service in partnership with Doutta Galla Community Health Service.
  • Exploration of caffeine use among individuals with schizophrenia and schizo-affective disorder.
