Neami group programs are facilitated by Neami staff, consumers and in collaboration with other services. They are primarily delivered in local community settings to allow consumers to reconnect with their community while also providing other community members with an avenue to address issues of stigma associated with mental illness. The group programs provide resources and activities within a supportive environment that help to strengthen the social and living skills necessary to create stability and independence in peoples’ lives, which may assist in their process of recovery.
Some of the group programs held at Neami include:
- Support in keeping well and managing symptoms of mental illness
- Creative expression, e.g. accessing community arts groups
- Recreation and fitness, e.g. walking, swimming, gym sessions
- Social skills, e.g. communication and listening skills, budgeting, cooking
